Settsu City is a young community that was incorporated as a municipality in 1966. It has a population of 85,000 and is adjacent to Osaka, which is Japan's second biggest city.

With its territory spanning 6km west to east and 5km north to south, Settsu City resembles an "L" shape and has a total area of 148,700m2. Most of the city's topography is flat owing to the alluvial formation movements of the Yodo River, a large river that flows through the southern part of the city.

Settsu's climate belongs to the Setouchi climatic zone and throughout its four seasons enjoys mild natural conditions.

From olden times, the area prospered in agriculture and played an important role as a key river transportation point that connected the merchant town of Osaka and the old capital of Kyoto.

Even today, Settsu City's location as a strategic transportation point is helping to develop local distribution-related industries. The Tokaido line of the Shinkansen (bullet train) runs through the Torikai base and the Kinki Expressway and the Osaka Central Ring Freeway also run through the city.

City people get around on various trains operating on the JR Kyoto(Tokaido) Line, the Hankyu Kyoto Line and the Osaka Monorail. Many city dwellers live in residential areas located conveniently for commuting purposes.
